Queen’s Royal College pulled off an impressive 12-point come-from-behind victory over the National Academy of Business Arts and Commerce (NABAC) to take the NGC/Express Secondary Schools Basketball League North Zone title on Tuesday at the Jean Pierre Complex.
Jaeon Bobb sank 24 points, and Shemuel Bartholomew, who put in a half-time appearance, still managed 20 points, to lead QRC’s second half recovery, after they trailed by six points, NABAC having the advantage 27-21.
Stephen Taylor (18 points) and Aadil Osbourne (20), as well as Kirton Legerton (17), were the sharp shooters for NABAC, but they could not keep pace with the second half scoring, as their team were bettered 51-33.
Also on Friday, International School of Port of Spain turned back QRC’s Under-17s 66-39, thanks to Mathew Temple’s 27 points, and Dominique Lawrence’s 15. D’Javan Walker sank 17 points for QRC, but it was never enough, as they lost by 27 points.
Last week Friday, ISPS also blanked Woodbrook Government’s Under-20 Boys, Bill Fryar (22) and Temple’s 13 points outweighing Isaiah Cummings’ 22 for Woodrook

The taste of victory was short-lived for students of Queen’s Royal College (QRC) on Thursday, as mere seconds after being declared the winners of the 2008 RBTT Young Leaders Debate chairman Hans Geiser announced he had mixed up the winners and the runners-up.
Shouts of joy swept through the ballroom of the Crowne Plaza Hotel, on Wrightson Road, as students of St Joseph’s Convent Port of Spain realised that they were the winners of this year’s competition and not QRC as Geiser had previously announced.

Providence, St Joseph’s Convent, Port of Spain, and St Mary’s College were the big winners when the 2008 First Citizens National Secondary Schools Water Polo League concluded last weekend at two venues.,
On Friday at Trinidad Country Club in Maraval, Providence dethroned St. Joseph’s Convent PoS 7-1 to take the Form One Girls title, while CIC upset Fatima 6-4 in the Form One Boys final.
And on Saturday at Marlins Swim Club in Wetsmoorings, QRC held on for bronze over St Anthony’s in the Senior Male category, winning that encounter 10-9.

PUPILS from two of the nation’s top schools will square off in the finals of the RBTT’s Young Leaders debate on Thursday.
St Joseph’s Convent, Port of Spain, will go up against Queen’s Royal College (QRC), in the finals, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Wrightson Road, Port of Spain.
The two schools faced off with two other schools last Friday’s semi-final round of the competition at NALIS on Abercromby Street, Port of Spain, coming out on top of the competition to earn their spots in the finals.
QRC went up against the International School of Port of Spain opposing the motion be it resolved that “The generation gap is informed by sets of different values that cannot be reconciled.”

Queen’s Royal College and St Francois Girls both grabbed bronze in the third-place play-off matches in the Form One division of the 2008 First Citizens National Secondary Schools Water Polo League competition last Wednesday at the Trinidad Country Club in Maraval.
St Francois humbled Holy Name Convent 15-8, while QRC won by the same score against St Anthony’s College to take away the precious metal.

Michelle-Lee Ahye completed a weekend of sprint dominance in the girls’ under-17 category when she whipped her rivals in the 200 metres final, on the second and final day of the Carifta trials, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, yesterday.
The 15-year-old Concorde athlete completed the half-lap race in a very fast 23.80 seconds, a full second faster than the 24.80 qualifying standard. Though she finished a distant second, Kai Selvon also qualified, the Air Bon Sonics sprinter getting home in 24.27.
Both Ahye and Selvon had attained the 100m standard on day one.
A total of 41 qualifiers emerged from the two-day trials, many of them in two events.

Presentation College Chaguanas re-established their dominance in the South/Central Zone of the PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket League as they easily defeated defending InterCol limited overs champions Princes Town Secondary Comprehensive in league competition on Friday.
In the North/East Zone, reigning champs El Dorado Secondary Comprehensive retained their title after reaching 201 for six declared, thanks to Yannic Cariah’s 69, then bowling out Brazil High School for 102 and 41 to give them an innings and 58-run victory, helping them overtake Fatima at the top of the table.
